You may not need more content yet

I have a feeling a lot of business owners are walking around with more content than they realize.

Not always polished content. Not always perfectly organized content. But useful content.

Blog posts. Freebies. Service pages. Product pages. Podcast episodes. Videos. Resource lists. Old captions that were actually pretty good. Ideas sitting in Google Docs. Things you explained once and then forgot about because the next week showed up with another list of things to do.

And yet, the advice is usually: create more.

I understand why that advice sounds right. Visibility does require content. But if what you already have is scattered, disconnected, or buried, more content is not always the most helpful first step.

Sometimes it just adds more pieces to the pile.

This is especially true with Pinterest.

Pinterest works more like search. People are using it to look for ideas, answers, products, services, and next steps. That means your content needs a clear path.

Your profile needs to explain what you want to be found for. Your boards need to match your content themes. Your pins need to point to useful links. Your blog posts, freebies, products, and offers need to connect in a way that makes sense.

Otherwise, you can have good content sitting there quietly doing almost nothing.

Not because it is bad.

Because Pinterest does not have enough clear signals to know where it belongs or who should see it.

A simple way to check this is to pick one piece of content you already have.

Maybe it is a blog post. Ask yourself:

  • What question does this answer?
  • What would someone search to find this?
  • What Pinterest board would it belong on?
  • What next step should someone take after reading it?
  • Does this connect to a freebie, offer, product, or service?

That one exercise can tell you a lot.

If you cannot answer those questions, you probably do not need to create more content first. You need to clarify the path for the content you already have.

That is good news, honestly.

Because it means you may not be as behind as you thought. You may have more to work with than you realized.

Your content is not wasted. Your old posts are not automatically dead. Your freebie is not useless just because it is not getting traffic right now. Your service page might not need a full rewrite. It may just need better content pointing toward it.

If Pinterest has felt random or confusing, start with the foundation.

I made the Pinterest Profile Checklist to help you look at your profile, boards, keywords, and links with fresh eyes. It is a simple way to spot the places where your current setup may not be giving Pinterest enough information.

Bring what you already have. Let’s make it easier to find.

I know it’s July. I also know that talking about fall content right now feels a little rude. Some of us are still trying to remember sunscreen, water the garden, and make it through the week without melting. But people are already starting to plan what comes next. That’s especially true on Pinterest. Pinterest users often search before they need something. They’re looking for school ideas before school starts, holiday plans before the decorations come out, and business resources before the...

A while ago, I looked at a Pinterest profile that belonged to a business owner and client who had completely changed directions. Her website was current. Her services were clear. Her social accounts reflected the work she was doing now. Pinterest had apparently missed the meeting. Her profile description still referenced the previous business; the first several boards were linked to outdated content, and the website link led to a page that no longer existed. Nothing was technically broken...

Hi, I used to think Pinterest was just another social media platform. And honestly, I did not need another thing to keep up with. Another place to post. Another place to make graphics. Another place to wonder if I was doing enough. Hard pass. But that was the part I had wrong. Pinterest works much more like search. People go there looking for ideas, answers, products, plans, and next steps. That changes how we should think about it, especially if you already have content sitting in your...
